COLD FUSION becomes National F1 in Schools Champion

March 12, 2012

Brighton Secondary School F1 in Schools team, Cold Fusion Australia, won the highly competitive Senior Professional Class National Champion award last week. Against 23 other schools, who had to progress through regional and State competitions to gain entry to the National competition, Cold Fusion defeated some highly fancied, and heavily financed opponents from all over Australia across a range of categories including Fastest Overall car, Marketing, Engineering, Industry Collaboration, Folio and Verbal Presentations.

The competition has a place for any dedicated student, whether it be in Computer Aided Design, Advanced Graphics, Testing and Analysis of Computational Fluid Dynamics data, Team Management, designing display booths, competition uniforms, or writing NC code to drive a 4th Axis Milling machine to manufacture the prototype F1 cars.

Teams are required to design, test, make and race a prototype F1 car powered by a CO2 canister down a 20 meter track as well as to provide marketing materials and collaborate with Industry.

Cold Fusion now becomes Cold Fusion Australia, as they will now represent Australia at the World F1 in Schools competition, to be held later this year overseas at a venue and time to be advised.

The World Competition features 30 countries from around the world including those from Germany, USA, Britain, Canada, Malaysia and Ireland. Well over 500,000 students globally compete for the chance to win the Bernie Eccleston Trophy, and to represent their respective countries.

The event will be live on the internet, so you will be able to follow their progress.

We are the first team from South Australia to win the national event, which came about as a result of countless hours of diligence and effort from the participating members. They are:

Jane Burton          Team Manager

Jake Grant            Resource Manager

Spencer Olds       Design Engineer

Michelle Lennon  Testing and Manufacturing Engineer

Henry Lynch         Industry Relations

Tom Agars            Innovation/Development

We wish them well in their preparation, and there will be an industry/information evening on Wednesday May the 2nd at Brighton Secondary School, for further details please contact the school.
